Syracuse, NY - My Hometown Favorites!



Syracuse is a hard working, blue collar town in Upstate New York. It was a bustling town known for salt mining, the Erie Canal, railroads and lots of factories like Carrier, GM, and GE. When those companies left or closed over the years, so did the employment opportunities and prosperity of the area.


Today, Syracuse University, LeMoyne College and University Hospital bring a lot of money and attention the area. It is projected that large tech companies are coming to the city over the next few years. And, the rising housing prices are a reflection of the future of the area.


Besides visiting family and old friend, my favorite part of going back home is the food! Stopping by Dinosaur BBQ, Glazed and Confused Donuts, and Plank Road Ice Cream are highlights of my trip.


Hometown Favorites


Dinosaur BBQ is a biker bar & barbecue restaurant where all are welcome, the servers are smart and sometimes sassy and the food is absolutely AMAZING!


Glazed and Confused was new to me on this visit and I only wish I had one down the road from my house! Their variety is ridiculous and they offer GF donuts on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This place had the best GF donuts I have ever had. My pals could not believe how good they were. Can they overnight some to my house?


Plank Road Ice Cream is just a wonderful treat. Soft serve ice cream with very generous portions. My ice cream sundae always puts a smile on my face. Even when the Syracuse chill is in the air we find out way to Plank Road.


What other restaurants should I visit when I go back home? They have to have good GF options.
